Beginning of July saw a new group of students to enrol for Educare arrive to start their year of training. The students come from all corners of the greater Pietermaritzburg area, travelling into the city by taxi or bus and then walking the last few blocks to Metro Church. This time there a two students travelling from Durban, a distance of 90 kms, to attend classes every two weeks. The group is larger than usual (total of 40 students divided into two groups of 20) and enthusiastic to start learning.
Under the guidance of Naidene McCall, an experienced and efficient pre-school teacher with many years of experience, the students quickly settle down to learning new approaches to teaching, painting and other practical activities to show the children. Naidene is assisted by two mentors who also visit the students in their schools to offer support and assistance with implementing what they learn.
Their year will finish in June 2017 and some will continue their studies and enrol for a Level 4 course.
